As many of you may know the beef between Queens rapper Nicki Minaj & Bronx rapper Cardi B has been getting piping hot. Things have gotten pretty hectic between the two female MC’s. Here are some of the things you might have missed.
May 2017 –
Backdating to last May, Apparently, Nicki Minaj was throwing shots at Cardi B during her verse on Katy Perry’s Swish Swish single. Bardi Gang picked up on lyrics “Silly rap beefs just get me more checks / My life is a movie, I’m never offset / Me and my amigos (no, not Offset),”. Cardi’s fans took note quick to say the lyrics were a bit shady, being that the line included her now-husband Offset’s name. Once the Single dropped Cardi mad multiple LIVE videos on Instagram referring to Nicki Minaj But never giving any direct acknowledgment that she was referring to Nicki.
“I hate this shit, I really, really do. A bitch like me, I was happier when I was macking in the hood. This shit right here is so fake, When I used to be a regular bitch from the Bronx — a hood bitch — when somebody used to be fake to me it was cool because I could approach a bitch and punch her right in her closure… Now that I’m in the industry, you don’t work like that, just have to watch shit go, watch shit go. You gotta see people play you and just say nothing like a dick. That shit is so wack my nigga like that shit be breaking my heart because the people, your idols, become rivals.”
Cardi B joins forces with Nicki Minaj’s longtime enemy Remy Ma. Cardi B took the stage with Remy Ma & other women in hip-hop, Lil Kim, Queen Latifah & More to perform the hit “U.N.I.T.Y.,” before Remy delivered a performance of her Nicki diss track “ShETHER” complete with a picture of Nicki behind her.
August 2017 –
The battle between the two started to grow & get juicier, during Cardi’s performance of “Bodack Yellow” at the MoMA’s PS1 in Queens Cardi Blurted out “You know this bitch she never f—ing liked me, and all of a sudden she want to be friends with me — no, bitch … I still don’t like you bitch.”
In Late August Nicki Minaj was being featured on “No Flags” featuring 21 Savage & Offset. Minaj was a verse that raised a few eyebrows, “I heard these labels are trying to make another me / Everything you’re getting little hoe is because of me.” many fans believe that the line was referring to Cardi B. The song was dropped shortly after Cardi b has inked her deal with Atlantic Records. However, Nicki Minaj put an end to the rumors via Twitter.
During an interview at 2017, MTV VMA’s Cardi tried her to diffuse the situation between the rap beef. “I mean, I don’t really want problems with anybody,” she told Billboard. “I don’t want to be, like, queen. I don’t wanna be no this. I don’t wanna be no that. I just wanna make music and make money. I really don’t have time to look at other women, what they doing. I’m myself, you know what I’m saying? Nobody got a problem with me. I don’t got a problem with them. If somebody got a problem I don’t really got to do that whole industry beef. Like, you know, I get it popping with these hands.”
Septemeber 2017 –
Many fans took Cardi’s verse on No Limit to be a shot thrown towards Nicki. “My career takin’ off / These hoes jogging in place / Swear these hoes run they mouth / How these hoes out of shape? / Can you stop with all the subs? / Bitch I ain’t Jared.”.
Shortly after the song dropped Charlemagne The God asked Cardi B directly if she had beef with Nicki, the rapper then replied back, “She Aint Never Fuck My Man”
The two made it clear that there was no bad blood with each other via Twitter when Nicki congratulated Cardi on being the first solo rapper to make number one on the Billboard charts since the legendary Lauryn Hill.
To end the rumors of the feud between the rappers. The two MCs came together on a featured track “Motorsport”, that featured Migos. The single originally began as just Quavo ( Rapper from rap group Migos). Nicki played tweet & delete explaining how it came to turns that Cardi & the rest of Migos ended up on the track.
It tea became hotter when it was revealed that Nicki Minaj ended up altering her verse on the single. The single was originally written as “If Cardi the QB, I’m Nick Lombardi” — a reference to famed football coach Vince Lombardi”, it was switched to “If Quavo the QB, I’m Nick Lombardi” — a reference to famed football coach Vince Lombardi”.
Nicki made the claim that Cardi B’s management team made an insistent at the hands of Atlantic to change Cardi’s name.
When the visual was officially released, fans took note that Nicki & Cardi never made an appearance together in the same scene throughout the whole video. “We tried to create that moment…you dig?” Quavo insisted during an interview with host Ebro Darden on his Beats 1 radio show.
Nicki revealed later in April that the two New York rappers didn’t make an appearance because of a scheduling conflict that prohibited their hair stylist Tokyo Stylez, to be available for the same day Cardi was shooting her scenes. “You know, if I don’t show up they’re gonna act like I’m doing it to be mean, because of the current Nicki hate train,” she explained to Tokyo. Stylez was both of their personal hair stylists at the time of the video shoot.
Not long before Nicki’s hiatus from social media, fans accused that Cardi B was ” Stealing Nicki’s Style” in the single “No Limit”. Nicki than made subliminal tweets, inferring that she also took notice.
Dying down after the Nicki hiatus, The rumor mills began to pick back up following two back – to – back interviews from both Nicki & Cardi. Cardi tried to steer away from the drama associations with Nicki during her interview with Ebro following her debut album since signing to Atlantic Records.
“I just feel like it’s really internet-made-up,” she said. “I really feel like fans and people, they really want to see that happened, because it’s really entertaining to see people beef. It’s entertaining. Like, I ain’t gonna front, when Nicki and Remy [Ma] was beefing, everyone was tuning and asking, ‘What’s next? What’s next?’…But I don’t really have the time for that. If you not fucking my man, or if you’re not taking my money from me, if you’re not stopping my money, then I don’t really give a fuck about you.”.
Nicki made it clear a weeks later on Zayne Lowe radio show that she felt ambushed by Cardi about the “Motorsport”, a comment made during the hiatus.
“The only thing with Cardi that really, really, really hurt my feelings was the first interview she did after ‘MotorSport’ came out,” she said. “The first interview she did after ‘MotorSport’ came out, it just really hurt me. She looked so aggravated and angry and the only thing she said was, ‘Oh, I didn’t hear that. I didn’t hear that verse.’ I was like, what?”
She added that many she was hurt because not of the people she considered to be close friend and allies didn’t come to her defense after being made out to be the “Bad Guy” of the industry. “That really, really hurt me. I really, fully supported [Cardi] and up until this recent interview I did, I had never seen her show me genuine love in an interview and I can imagine how many girls wish they could’ve been on a song with Nicki Minaj.”.
Cardi B and Nicki Minaj pose for what looks like a friendly conversation at the Met Gala. It appeared as the two have squashed the beef between one another.
Things began to take another turn between the two when Minaj rapper brought Ebro on Queen Radio, Nicki stated “Can we please move on?” she groaned, before ultimately offering a response. “I didn’t know Cardi and I had an issue. To me, she may have taken an issue with things that I’ve said, but I’m not going to bite my tongue…You gotta have thick skin. People talk s— about me all the time. I don’t go around and tell people to stop posting me because I see one bad thing about myself.” she added “You can’t be expected to be liked and loved and praised all the f—ing time. Give me a break. You coming into the wrong game if you want people to kiss your ass and suck your dick all day, my n—. Like, come on.”
Cardi caught win of what Nicki said on Queen Radio, Cardi than tweeted. Fans went into investigation mode & it was revealed that the Queens rapper did, in fact, block the Bronx rapper.
After a year of throwing shady comments toward one another, the two finally came back head to head at New York Fashion Week, Harpers Bazaar’s ICON Awards on Septemeber 7th. A witness at the event told the media that Cardi B arrived first, then Nicki Minaj. After Nicki arrived there was an “Altercation” on the 2nd floor as Christina Aguilera was performing on stage.
Almost Immediately after the incident, photos and videos began to surface of inside the event. The paparazzi caught what appears to be a huge lump on Cardi B’s head. You can even see in a few videos Cardi B can be seen taking off her shoe to throw it. In another, she’s being held back while yelling “Play with me bitch…keep fucking playing with me, play with my fucking kid bitch…I’ll fuck your ass up,” while Nicki is protected by security.
Moments later the Bronx rapper Cardi B, released a statement that was later revealed was written by her publicist stating the fight occurred because Nicki tried to stop her bags & talked about her motherhood skills.
Nicki declined to respond about the incident that occurred at NYFW. Until her 8th installment of Queen Radio. When Nicki did finally respond she responded and came with all of the receipts.
Nicki started off the discussion by playing a clip of Cardi B during an interview she did in 2017 with Fader. In the clip, Cardi explains that “nothing is off limits” when she claps back at people, even their children. “I hate when some people come at me like, ‘Why you coming at kids for,'” Cardi can be heard saying. “I’m my mother’s baby.”
The reason Nicki played this clip is pretty obvious. In her Instagram post following their fight, Cardi indirectly claims Nicki talked about her daughter Kulture and her parenting skills. The clip is aimed at highlighting the hypocrisy in that accusation, while the Queen rapper also denied ever saying anything about Cardi’s daughter. “I would never talk about anyone’s child or anyone’s parenting,” she said. “And it’s so crazy to me that people always need to make Onika the bad guy…I am not a clown. That’s clown shit.”
“You knew that when that footage came out you would look dumb,” Nicki continued, explaining why Cardi and her team would make up the accusation. “I didn’t even feel the need to defend myself that night. …She has built her career off of sympathy and payola.”
Nicki denied ever stopping bags from coming Cardi’s way, and actually accused her of more than a few things, including attacking a woman on Instagram whose child died, and calling the child a “monkey.” She called out Cardi for previously referring to darker skinned black women as roaches and alleged that Cardi actually threatened a male rapper to not shoot a video with her.
“The Lord gave you a blessing with a bundle of joy and the only thing on your mind was to attack people and to stop their bags,” Nicki said, after suggesting Cardi might have postpartum depression. “Who are you angry at sweetheart?”
Nicki also brought on her friend Rah, who was involved in the NYFW brawl. They spent a good amount of time talking about the two women who are reportedly planning to sue Cardi B for allegedly organizing physical attacks on them. In the conversation, the women dragged Offset and blamed him for being the reason Cardi is so pressed since Cardi reportedly thinks one of the victims slept with her husband.
Cardi’s sister Hennessey Carolina went on social media to accuse Nicki of leaking Cardi’s phone number to the Barbz, leading to a barrage of hateful messages. “She leaked my sister’s number to her fan pages,” Hennessey wrote.

As the drama between #hennessycarolina and #thebarbs , Hennessy claims that #NickiMinaj leaked her sister #CardiB phone number to multiple fan pages, is Hennessy dragging the situation or do you think Nicki leaked the phone number ? But the truth & the matter is what does baby Kulture have to do with this, Kulture is an innocent baby who doesn’t need to be brought into a situation with grown ass woman ! #lkbapproved #lkbconnected
Nicki returned to Queen Radio and unleashed a long monologue about Cardi, the fight, music, and pretty much everything else.
When it came to the fight, Minaj said that her friend Rah Ali did serious damage to Cardi (as opposed to Cardi’s telling, where security was to blame) and that there was footage to back that up. “Rah beat Cardi’s ass really bad,” Nicki said. “Rah beat you so bad that I was mad at Rah.”
Minaj also denied leaking Cardi’s phone number (“What type of bird shit you on, bitch?” she asked incredulously), and said that she had asked Cardi to collaborate, but got turned down. Nicki also claimed that she had been offered—and turned down—Cardi’s Fashion Nova deal, and offered to take a lie detector test to bolster all of her claims.
In a series of 10 (!) Instagram videos, Cardi laid out her rebuttal. A list of key takeaways:
- If she was getting beaten so badly by Rah Ali, why hasn’t any video of that surfaced yet? As Cardi memorably puts it, there was “so much footages” of the party and the fight.
- Cardi cops to demanding that Nicki change her verse on “Motorsport,” saying that she refused to shoot the video unless the now-infamous “Nick Lombardi” line was changed.
- Cardi claims that Nicki turned down a chance to be on “No Limit,” and then turned around and got upset at her management after it became a hit.
- Cardi attacked payola claims, pointing out that her single “Money,” even before it was delivered to radio, was charting on iTunes—the same company that hosts Queen Radio.
- Cardi claimed that Nicki was responsible for the phone number leak. It happened one hour after their fight, Cardi said. Adding to the circumstantial evidence, Cardi said that neither her new number nor her sister’s number had been leaked and that no one in Nicki’s camp had either one. “How come everybody that y’all have issues with, and y’all got the numbers in y’all camp, they numbers got leaked?” Cardi asked.
- Cardi claims that Nicki endorses her fans’ “sick-ass fucking behavior” by liking Twitter posts that advocate harassing Minaj’s enemies.
- Cardi denied telling 21 Savage not to shoot a video for “No Flag.” Instead, she says, the song just wasn’t doing well.
All of this back-and-forth ended later that night in a truce…for now.
